I have maintained a climate of openness, inquiry, fairness, and support during my time in the classroom and outside of the classroom. I have listened to all students, have supported students though their needs, provided additional help for students who need assistance, and have asked questions about real life problems during lessons.
Example 1- To break down any stereotypes, during seminar we had an assignment that was dedicated to

going out into the community. This helped me understand the students, where they come from, what they like to do, be able to understand and support them, and crush any stereotypes or negative thinking that may have happened.

Example 2- During my read aloud, we are reading Front Desk by Kelly Yang. This book talks about major topics such as, discrimination, immigration, racism, sexism, and other scenarios. I opened the floor up for students to tell me about their thoughts on characters in the book, their experiences with life changing things such as immigrating to America, moving, and changing schools. I created a climate of openness, inquiry, fairness, and support throughout the lesson.
Example 3- One week a student refused to do his work. He looked upset so I asked him if we could go into the hallway and talk. He opened up to me about a group of students bullying him, calling him names, and hitting him. I talked with this student for 45 minutes and we came to the conclusion to have a talk with all students involved. During lunch I asked the group of students to eat outside with me, the student was able to express his feelings about how he felt being made fun of and we had a discussion about how it is important to always be kind. By the end of lunch, the group was all laughing together and having a good conversation, they have been friends since. I was able to open up, support, and provide fairness to the students.
